Hierdie skildery was geinspireer deur die ingrypende wêreldnuus in 2014, tien jaar gelede.

276 meisies, meestal Christene, tussen die ouderdom 16-18 was ontvoer deur ‘n terroriste groep. Dit het my aangegryp. Ons het self op daardie stadium jong dogters in die huis gehad. My hart het uitgegaan na die ouers en jong dogters wat ontvoer is. Volgens Wikipedia was 100 van die meisies nog nie gevind in 2021 nie. Daar is geskat dat die terroriste groep 2000 vroue en jong meisies in een jaar ontvoer het. En vandag gebeur dit steeds. Jong meisies en seuns word ontvoer om nooit weer van gehoor te word nie. Dis skokkend wanneer mens die getalle sien van ontvoerings wat daagliks regoor die wêreld plaasvind.

Hou ‘n ouer ooit op soek en hoop?

Ogies wat praat oor duisende kilometers ver, roep om gesien en onthou te word.

Terwyl ek hierdie skildery gedoen het, het ek gedurig gebid vir die dogters en hul ouers.

En so herinner dit mens aan ‘n jong meisie, weggevoer uit haar land, wat as slavin in die huis van ‘n melaatse was (2Konings: 5). En daar het sy vertel van ‘n profeet in haar land, waarheen haar meester Naaman is en waar hy genesing ontvang het. Wat ‘n getuienis en oproep vir ons. Dat ons omstandighede nie verskoning mag wees vir sonde nie. Dat al is ons situasie ondenkbaar, God is in beheer en gebruik alles vir ons beswil en tot sy eer.

Mag ons genade ontvang om Sy ligdraers te wees ongeag ons omstandighede.
